Badminton Features at Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games as Africa Hosts Historic Event
Badminton is among the 25 competition sports at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, taking place in Senegal from 31 October to 13 November. The Games mark the first Olympic sporting event staged on African soil.
Opportunity for young badminton players
The International Olympic Committee says Dakar 2026 features 25 competition sports, 153 medal events and an athlete quota of approximately 2,700. The programme is designed to provide balanced opportunities for young women and men, while widening access to high-level international competition.
Badminton’s inclusion offers emerging players a prominent stage and highlights the sport’s reach beyond its traditional strongholds. The Games also provide an opportunity to inspire greater participation across African communities.
Historic milestone for Senegal
Competitions are taking place across Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly. Organisers have emphasised youth development, inclusion and the lasting benefits of hosting the event.
