Champions League 2026/27 Yellow Card Rules: Four Bookings Trigger Suspension
UEFA has updated the yellow-card accumulation rules for the 2026/27 Champions League season. Under Article 63.02, players and team officials are suspended for the next competition match after four yellow cards from the league phase onward, followed by their sixth, eighth and subsequent even-numbered cautions.
In the qualifying rounds, a suspension follows the third yellow card and subsequent odd-numbered cautions. Yellow cards and yellow-card suspensions from qualifying are cleared before the league phase; red-card suspensions still apply.
Under Article 63.04, accumulated yellow cards expire after the quarter-finals, so they are not carried into the semi-finals. A player may still miss a final because of a red card or another applicable suspension.
