Como Hit Nine at Lens to Equal Champions League Winning-Margin Record

Como produced one of the most remarkable results of the 2026/27 Champions League league phase by defeating Lens 9–1 away from home on 4 November, matching the competition’s record eight-goal winning margin.

UEFA confirmed the result, while Reuters’ report carried by CNA placed it alongside Liverpool’s 8–0 win over Beşiktaş and Real Madrid’s 8–0 victory against Malmö. Como’s achievement also set a new benchmark for an away win in the Champions League era.

Douvikas leads a relentless attacking display

According to Opta Analyst, Tasos Douvikas scored a hat-trick as Cesc Fàbregas’ side built a 3–0 half-time lead and continued to score after the interval. Nico Paz was also among the scorers at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Lens found a consolation through Ruben Aguilar, but Como’s attacking output remained the defining feature. Matteo Papaccioli added the visitors’ ninth goal in stoppage time to complete the extraordinary scoreline.

Numbers underline the scale of the performance

Opta recorded 18 Como attempts, including 12 on target. All nine goals were assisted, with 11 different Como players contributing either a goal or an assist.

Those figures show that the result involved contributions across the side rather than one scorer alone. Finishing nine of 18 attempts was an exceptional return, even within a night when Como created repeated opportunities.

Debut European campaign gathers momentum

Reuters reported that the victory was Como’s third in four league-phase matches, taking them to nine points and 19 goals scored. It extended an already striking start to their first European campaign.

For Lens, the result brings an immediate need to regroup. An eight-goal defeat damages the goal difference as well as costing points, adding another concern as the league programme continues.

A result that will define this matchday

Como leave France with more than a routine away victory: they have a record-equalling margin and a performance that demonstrates the attacking threat they can bring to European opposition.

The wider campaign still has fixtures to play, but the 9–1 scoreline has already secured this match a distinctive place in Champions League history.
