Southern Georgia Fishing Report: Redfish and Trout Strong as Cold Snap Slows Bass Bite

Fishing report based on conditions published 24 October 2026.

A late-October cold snap has slowed the freshwater bass bite across parts of southern Georgia, while anglers on the coast have continued to report productive redfish and spotted seatrout fishing, according to Joshua Barber’s Southern Waters report published by Georgia Outdoor News on 24 October.

Coastal catches remain encouraging

Fishing reports from the St. Simons area describe good catches of seatrout, redfish, sheepshead and black drum. Anglers used live shrimp and soft-plastic lures, with several successful trips reported despite windy conditions.

Freshwater bass fishing slows in cooler weather

The cold snap has made bass fishing less consistent. However, anglers still reported catches on local rivers, lakes and ponds. On the Altamaha River, one angler caught 13 bass using a gold-bladed buzzbait. Results varied by location, and the report suggested the bite could improve with warmer weather.

River levels require attention

Several rivers remained elevated following earlier rainfall. Barber’s report included gauge readings from 21 October, including the Satilla River, which was reported as high and falling at Waycross and Atkinson. Anglers should check live river gauges and weather conditions before travelling, since these observations may change quickly.
