Formula 1 Confirms 10-Year Rwanda Deal for African Grand Prix

Formula 1 announced on 13 October 2026 that it has signed a 10-year agreement to stage the African Grand Prix in Rwanda, marking the championship’s planned return to Africa for the first time since the 1993 South African Grand Prix.

The race is expected to debut in the early 2030s, once a new purpose-built circuit at Bugesera, south of Kigali, is completed. The circuit is planned to meet FIA Grade 1 standards and forms part of a wider development project led by the Rwanda Development Board.

The exact inaugural race date and construction milestones have not yet been announced. The deal is confirmed, but the race remains contingent on completion of the circuit.
