Pan American Surf Fishing Championship Heads to Florida for First US Edition
The sixth Pan American Surf Fishing Championship brings international shore anglers to Sebastian Inlet State Park in Florida from 5–8 November 2026, with the United States hosting the event for the first time.
According to USAngling’s event announcement, the programme opens with ceremonies on 5 November before the competitive sessions on 7 and 8 November. The distinction matters: the four-day championship programme includes preparation and official activities as well as the two days that decide the medals.
Artificial lures and catch-and-release competition
Four sessions will determine the team, individual and under-21 standings. Anglers must use artificial lures, with catches measured and released. Scores take account of the species caught and the fish’s measured length, rather than a conventional weigh-in of retained fish.
That format makes accurate identification, careful handling and consistent judging central to the competition. A productive session must deliver eligible, properly recorded catches as well as successful fishing.
Home-water opportunity for the United States
USAngling’s squad announcement describes a home team combining experienced international competitors with anglers familiar with Florida’s Atlantic coastline. The United States is seeking its first senior team gold after consecutive team silver medals in 2024 and 2025.
The venue places the championship on a coast with a strong shore-fishing tradition. Local knowledge may help competitors read the water, but it cannot guarantee the outcome of a points-based contest spread across several sessions.
Rival teams bring proven credentials
The host nation will face opposition with its own championship pedigree. USAngling’s event preview identifies Costa Rica, winners of the 2024 team competition, among the contenders, alongside Cuba, Guatemala and Honduras. Those teams bring experience of tropical saltwater species and lure fishing to a contest in which the United States is seeking to improve on silver.
The host team’s announcement notes how narrow recent editions have been: a single fish separated the leading team places in both 2024 and 2025. That history adds significance to each correctly measured catch, especially when several sessions are combined to settle the standings.
Medals to be decided over the weekend
The opening programme sets the stage; the decisive results will come from the beach sessions. With team and individual honours available, competitors must balance their own scoring opportunities with the broader effort of their national squads.
The first US staging is a milestone for the championship, while its catch-and-release rules keep conservation part of the competitive format. Final placings remain to be determined.
