Verstappen and Lawson Given One-Place Grid Penalties After Mexico City FP2 Collision
Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson each received a one-place grid penalty following contact during second practice for the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix on 30 October.
The Red Bull and Racing Bulls drivers came together in the stadium section between Turns 12 and 14, leaving debris on the circuit and prompting a red flag. Stewards reviewed footage and heard from both drivers before ruling that their driving was unacceptable. Both received a penalty point in addition to the grid drop.
The incident occurred in practice, not the race, and the sanctions applied to the starting grid for Sunday’s Grand Prix.
