FIA Discusses Simpler V8 Turbo-Hybrid Engines for F1’s Next Rules
Formula 1’s governing body, the FIA, has circulated proposals for a simpler and less expensive V8 turbo-hybrid engine formula that could arrive in 2030 or 2031. The plans are under discussion and are not yet approved regulations.
What could change?
The proposal would replace the present V6-based architecture with a turbocharged V8 and a smaller electrical component, while retaining sustainable fuels. The stated aims include lower development costs, lighter cars and more emphasis on driver skill.
Six power-unit manufacturers are involved in the discussions. Details, including engine size and the introduction date, remain subject to agreement and approval.
