McLaren Reviews Papaya Rules After Norris-Piastri Singapore Sprint Collision
McLaren’s approach to racing between teammates is back in focus after Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri collided on the final lap of the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix Sprint on 10 October.
The two drivers were battling for fourth when Norris attempted to pass Piastri at Turn 5. Both spun; Piastri retired while Norris continued to finish eighth. The stewards took no further action after reviewing the incident.
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella expressed disappointment over the clash. Norris subsequently apologised to the team. In Sunday’s Grand Prix, Norris finished fourth and Piastri fifth.
McLaren had previously said it would continue providing both drivers equal opportunities under its so-called Papaya Rules. The incident has renewed discussion about how that approach operates when teammates fight for position.
