An Se-young Reaches Korea Open Semi-Finals with 53rd Consecutive Match Win

An Se-young advanced to the Korea Open women’s singles semi-finals on 6 November, defeating Japan’s Riko Gunji 21–7, 21–13 at Jinnam Stadium in Yeosu.

South Korean reports by SBS and Chosun identified the result as her 53rd consecutive match victory. It leaves the world No. 1 two wins away from the tournament title as she continues her campaign in front of home supporters.

First-game surge establishes control

SBS reported that An moved from 10–7 to 21–7 by winning 11 points in succession in the opening game. That run transformed a competitive early score into a substantial advantage before the interval.

The second game ended 21–13, completing another straight-games victory. Chosun’s account described an early lead in that game as An continued to control the result.

Those details explain the shape of the quarter-final without reducing it simply to the length of her winning streak: a decisive sequence in the first game was followed by a sustained advantage in the second.

Title pursuit enters its final stages

The reports place An’s Korea Open challenge within her pursuit of an eleventh individual title of the season. Reaching the semi-finals keeps that objective available, but it does not settle the outcome of the tournament.

Her next opponent is Japan’s Hina Akechi, according to the reported semi-final line-up. A victory in that match would put An into the championship decider.

Winning sequence adds pressure and significance

A long unbeaten run provides a measure of consistency across matches rather than a guarantee about the next one. Each remaining round still requires An to adapt to a different opponent and complete another contest.

For her rivals, the task is to interrupt a sequence that has survived another quarter-final. For An, the immediate focus narrows to the last four rather than the final trophy.

The Yeosu result confirms both her semi-final place and the extension of the winning run. The two remaining steps towards the title will now determine whether another commanding week on home courts ends with a championship.
